The Anthropometric Evaluation Study in Primary School Chilren

Abstract

This study is performed to develop regional standards for growth monitoring of 6-11 yrs old children in Sivas province of Turkey. A total of 13177 children in 24 primary schools were examined and their height, weight and arm circumferences were measured. Data were evaluated by SPSS and Epi Info 6.0 statistics programmes. Weight for age, and height for age values and weight by height z scores were found significantly different from NCHS standards. Especially height for age scores were found lower than NCHS values. On the other hand ali of these values were found higher than previous standards of Turkish children. Significant correlations were observed in between age and weight, height and arm circumference measures. It w as also observed t hat arm circumference values could be used instead of other measures when age is unknown.
