Taste Acuıty Of Underweıght, Normal and Obese Subjects

Abstract

This study has been carried out to determine taste acuity of obese, normal and undervveigt subjects. Four different concentrations o f four basic tastes were applied to the subjects. None o f the subjects could feel taste below the thresholds. Similar taste acuity has been found for the normals and unterweight individuals. Obese subjects had high detection thresholds for the sweet and bitter tastes ( 80 %, 70 %). A positive and significant correlation was found between body mass index and taste acuity (p<0.001).
