Relatıonshıps Between Duratıon Of Breast - Feedıng And Mothers Demographıc Characterıstıcs

Abstract

The study was held in Trabzon in a sample of 1165 mothers vvho at least one child. It was found that 6.4 % of mothers did not breast - feed their last child. The duration of breast - feeding vvas affected by mother’s education and age. The higher the mother s education, the percentage of children breast - fed vvas decreased. On the other hand, duration of breast - feeding vvas found longer in rural areas than urban and according to the increase in the number of chidren and mother's age. If early cessation of breast, feeding occurred, 75.6 % of mothers from rural areas intended to feed the baby with covv’s milk, while 51.9 % of mothers from urban prefered commcrcial formulas.
