Homocysteine: A Risk Factor for Cardiovascular Disease

Abstract

Studies have shown that iııcreased homocysteine in blood is an important independent risk factor for cardivoscular disease. The dietary factor s affecting hyperhomocysteinemia are folic acid, vitamin B12 and vitamin B6 defıcieııcy and iııcreased intake of cojfee. In order to prevent cardiovascular disease, intake ofthese vitamins should be adequate and cojfee drinking should be limited with oııe or two cup s for a day.
