Abstract

Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic illness that requires continuing medical care and ongoing patient self management education and support to prevent acute complications and to reduce the risk of long-term complications. The increase in the prevelance of diabetes in Turkey within 12 years has been 90% which is exceeded the World Health Organisation targets. Adequate medical nutrition therapy approaches emphasize that preventing and treating type 2 diabetes and related diseases. Studies about the efficacy of medical nutrition therapy (MNT) has been show that only MNT can reduce HbA1c by 1% without any other medications. Therefore we presented a case of type 2 diabetes and the efficacy of MNT on his self management education with help of references.
