Abstract

Cystic fibrosis is an autosomal recessive, chronic, progressive inherited disease, characterized primarily by multiple organ injury, mainly lung and pancreas. As age progresses in cystic fibrosis disease, the islet cells are damaged and insulin deficiency arises, as a result of degradation of first in exocrine functions and then in endocrine functions. Cystic fibrosis-associated diabetes in patients with cystic fibrosis is a common complication in the middle ages. The main aim in the treatment of cystic fibrosis-associated diabetes is to combine diabetes diet and cystic fibrosis diet. In this way, with the diet plan which has low glycemic index in patients who do not use insulin provide normoglysemia and adequate development. In this case report, it was shown that glucose control of cystic fibrosis patient, accompanied by hyperglycaemia, malnutrition and osteopenia diagnosis, can be achieved with medical nutrition therapy, without the use of insulin. Additionally management of medical nutrition treatment was discussed.
