Abstract

In this descriptive research that the nutrition news stated in the newspapers have been reviewed in accordance with the subjects, information sources, its location in the newspaper’s page and its coverage area as well as seasonal distribution; between the dates of 1 July 2007 and 10 June 2008, by taking into the consideration of 25 newspapers whose circulation was equal and more than 35.000, 8 newspapers were elected by simple random sampling and the nutrition news in these newspapers have assessed accordingly: In these period o f times, approximately 1200 news has been published regarding the nutrition. Out o f total, 43% o f the relevant news concerning the nutrition published in press has attached to the newspapers and on the other hand 57% o f this news has published in the newspapers. The contents o f the news have introduced in the headline at the rate o f 24.3%). It is known that the relevant news o f nutrition (%38) has been seen especially in the spring. Due to the fact that 42.4% o f the news regarding the loss o f weight/ weight control has been organized by dietitians, 27.1%) o f this news has been drafted by the doctors. On the other hand, the 94.7%0 o f the suggestions of celebrities regarding the nutrition has focused on the loss o f weight and weight control. It is the fact that the most doctors have been frequently emphasized the nutrition news in the newspapers. The dietitians must provide intensive cooperation and contact with the community and they have to raise awareness o f the community concerning the nutrition that is critical for protection and improvement of health as well as they must provide accurate information for the community in complying with the right nutritional habit when comparing with the doctors. The dietitians must strengthen their coordination and communication with the press as well as the news that have been drafted by the dietitian must be issued broadly. I f the nutritional information published in the press has the scientific qualifications, it is important to raise the awareness o f the community in the proper way indeed.
